Is it possible to play European PC games on an American laptop?

My old laptop had a modus where it could change area code for DVD’s, but is that widespread?
Especially concerning pc games?
yes, a game from anywhere in the world, will work on any pc/laptop in the world.
they are not region coded like dvd’s
also be carefull of the language, not every game has an english language option
